BB-8 from Star Wars Crochet Pattern

Here is my new free crochet pattern, BB-8 from Star Wars. This blog version also has a more detailed description of how to make BB-8's circles.

Crochet Pattern Written by Melissa’s Crochet Patterns


You will need…
  • Yarn Color A - Red Heart Super Saver Solids in White
  • Yarn Color B - Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Gray Mist
  • Yarn Color C - Red Heart Super Saver Solids in Carrot
  • one 15mm black safety eye
  • one 12mm black safety eye
  • 3.25mm crochet hook (Size D)
  • Fiberfill Stuffing
  • Yarn Needle
  • Sewing Pins to hold pieces in place before sewing (optional)

Stitches and Abbreviations used…
  • Ch - chain
  • Sl - slip stitch
  • Sc - single crochet
  • St - stitch
  • Sts - stitches
  • Rpt - repeat
  • Inc - increase, 2 sc in the same space
  • Dec - decrease or sc2tog (single crochet 2 together)


Body
  • Using Yarn Color A
Rnd 1 ~ Using a magic ring, place 6 sc into the magic ring (6 sc)
Rnd 2 ~ inc around (12 sc)
Rnd 3 ~ sc, inc / rpt around (18 sc)
Rnd 4 ~ sc in 2 sts, inc / rpt around (24 sc)
Rnd 5 ~ sc in 3 sts, inc / rpt around (30 sc)
Rnd 6 ~ sc in 4 sts, inc / rpt around (36 sc)
Rnd 7 ~ sc in 5 sts, inc / rpt around (42 sc)
Rnds 8-17 ~ sc around (42 sc)
Rnd 18 ~ sc in 5 sts, dec / rpt around (36 sc)
Rnd 19 ~ sc in 4 sts, dec / rpt around (30 sc)
Rnd 20 ~ sc in 3 sts, dec / rpt around (24 sc)
Rnd 21 ~ sc in 2 sts, dec / rpt around (18 sc)
  • Stuff firmly.
Rnd 22 ~ sc, dec / rpt around (12 sc)
Rnd 23 ~ dec around (6 sc)
  • Fasten off, leaving a tail.
  • With your yarn needle, sew hole closed.


Circles for Body (make 6)
  • With Yarn Color B

Rnd 1 ~ Using a magic ring, place 6 sc into the magic ring (6 sc)
Rnd 2 ~ inc around (12 sc)


Rnd 3 ~ [Change to Yarn Color C - sc once,
Change to Yarn Color B - sc, inc] 4 times (16 sc)



Rnd 4 ~ [Change to Yarn Color C - inc with 3 sc (place 3sc all in one stitch)
Change to Yarn Color B - sc in 3] 4 times (24 sc)



  • Fasten off Yarn Color B

Rnd 5 ~ Continuing with Yarn Color C - sc in 3, inc / rpt around (30 sc)
Sl in the next 2 sts.


  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing onto the body.

With your yarn needle, sew the circles onto the body by leaving about 3 rows between each circle. You may want to pin your circles in place before sewing to find the right placement.


With your yarn needle and Yarn Color B - make lines from the center of the circle, to the next circle, repeat around for every circle.


Head
  • Using Yarn Color A
Rnd 1 ~ Using a magic ring, place 6 sc into the magic ring (6 sc)
Rnd 2 ~ inc around (12 sc)
Rnd 3 ~ sc, inc / rpt around (18 sc)
  • Change to Yarn Color B
Rnd 4 ~ sc in 2 sts, inc / rpt around (24 sc)
Rnd 5 ~ sc in 11, inc / rpt (26 sc)
  • Change to Yarn Color A
Rnd 6 ~ sc in 12, inc / rpt around (28 sc)
  • Change to Yarn Color C
Rnd 7 ~ sc in 13, inc / rpt around (30 sc)
  • Change to Yarn Color A
Rnds 8-10 ~ sc around (30 sc)
  • Change to Yarn Color C
Rnd 11 ~ sc in 6
Change to Yarn Color A - sc once
Change to Yarn Color C - sc once
Change to Yarn Color A - sc once
Change to Yarn Color C - sc in 2
Change to Yarn Color A - sc in 6
Change to Yarn Color C - sc once
Change to Yarn Color A - sc once
Change to Yarn Color C - sc in 3
Change to Yarn Color A - sc once
Change to Yarn Color C - sc once
Change to Yarn Color A - sc once
Change to Yarn Color C - sc in 5
Change to Yarn Color B, fasten off Yarn Color C. (30 sc)

Rnd 12 ~ Continuing with Yarn Color B - sc around (30 sc)
  • Change to Yarn Color A, fasten off Yarn Color B.

Rnd 13 ~ in inner loops only, sc in 4, dec / rpt around (25 sc)
Rnd 14 ~ in both loops, sc in 3, dec / rpt around (20 sc)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Tip - On Rnd 11, the 6 Yarn Color A sts are the center of the “face”. (The sts in bold font)

Insert the 15mm eye between Rnds 8 & 9.
Insert the 12mm eye between Rnds 10 & 11.


Stuff head. With your yarn needle, sew head in desired place. (You can sew it anywhere).

  1. When I am on Rnd 18 of body after the sc in 5 sts it says to dec/ rpt around (36 sc). Will I be doing 36 dec sts or 1 dec then 36 sc?

  3. Bonjour, il s'agit de passer de 42 mailles à 36 donc il faut faire (5 ms, 1 diminution) répéter 6 fois, vous obtiendrez 36 mailles.
