Piggy MCAL

Thank you for joining me in a fun filled mystery crochet along!

In this mystery crochet along you will be crocheting a piggy. Your finished piggy will measure around 8 inches from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet. Your size will vary depending on the yarn you choose, the crochet hook you choose, and your tension while crocheting. I used worsted weight yarn and a size D hook to get my piggy to this size.

Clues for this mystery will be given every 2 days as listed below…

Clue #1 - May 7, 2017
Clue #2 - May 9, 2017
Clue #3 - May 11, 2017

Arms (make 2)
  • With Yarn Color A
Rnd 1 ~ Using a magic ring, place 4 sc into the magic ring (4 sc)
Rnd 2 ~ inc around (8 sc)
  • Stuff lightly as you crochet along.
Rnds 3-13 ~ sc around (8 sc)
  • Stuff hand, stuff the rest of the arm lightly as you crochet along.

Would you like your pig to be in one solid color? If so, DO NOT change colors.

  • Change to Yarn Color B (You are done using Yarn Color A)
Rnd 14 ~ sc around (8 sc)

If you are crocheting in one solid color, crochet in BOTH loops on the next round.
Rnd 15 ~ in the back loops only, sc around (8 sc)
Rnd 16 ~ ch 1, fold in half, crocheting through both sides at the same time, sc across (4 sc)
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Pieces will be sewn together at the end of the MCAL.

Continue ONLY if you changed colors on Row 14, and left the front loops out to crochet.

The next step with be to make your piggy sleeves, if you have a solid colored piggy you do not need to crochet sleeves.

Tip - Depending which way you hold the body when crocheting, your piggy’s sleeves will have a slightly different look. When crocheting think of which side you want showing so you know which way to hold the piggy’s arms.

With Yarn Color B, join with a hdc (where the color change is) to any remaining loop of Rnd 15. Hdc in the next 6 loops around, increase with 2 hdc on the last loop. Join with a sl st in the first hdc made. (9 hdc) Weave in ends.

You are all done with your first clue!
Your next clue will be on May 9, 2017.
Please note clues will be posted around 4pm pacific time.

Feel free to contact me throughout the mystery, if you have any questions, through email, Ravelry, or Facebook page. I will have a thread in my Ravelry Group - Melissa's Crochet Patterns for discussion with others about the mystery.

You are all done with your fifth clue!

Assembly instructions will be on May 17th, 2017.

It is finally time to assemble your piggy!

Step 1 ~ With your yarn needle, sew the remaining hole of the head closed.

Step 2 ~ If you haven’t already, weave in the ends of
your piggy’s shirt or dress.

Step 3 ~ With your yarn needle and the
tail of the body, sew the head and body together.
Make sure your piggy’s eyes are facing the
right direction before sewing. You can use pins
to hold the head and body in place
while you sew.

Step 4 ~ With your yarn needle, sew the arms onto each side of the piggy’s body. Sew the arms slightly slanted. The blue line in the picture shows the last Rnd of the arms.

Step 5 ~ Sew the legs onto the bottom of the body. I sew my legs in a slight V shape, the legs should be pointing away from the face.

Step 6 ~ Sew the tail onto the bottom / back of the body.

Step 7 ~ Sew the ears onto each side of the head. After sewing on the ears, fold the tips of the ears inward.

Step 8 ~ Sew the mouth piece onto the bottom of your piggy’s snout.

Step 9 ~ With a small piece of brown, black, or desired color yarn, embroider your piggy nostrils and any other facial detail you want. I gave my boy piggy eyebrows and my girl piggy eyelashes.

I hope you enjoyed this mystery crochet along!
